Oil Spill
The Deepwater Horizon Oil Rig exploded on April 20, 2010, in the Gulf of
Mexico. As a result of the explosion, eleven lives were lost, and
millions of gallons of oil were spilled into the Gulf damaging hundreds
of miles of coastline and harming wildlife. The well was capped in June
2010, but the debate rages on over how much oil actually spilled into
the coastal waters. The Teacher Notes are packed with instructional
guidance and additional resources to help you engage your students in
this activity.
