What Shapes Do You See? [January 2012]
This activity furnishes opportunities for students to investigate and explore figurate numbers, for example, triangular, square, pentagonal, hexagonal, inspirational, and student-created figurate numbers. The activity also discusses potential real-world applications of the mathematics of figurate numbers. Teachers and students might revisit the May 1984 issue of Student Math Notes on Pascal’s Triangle, which provides additional discourse on particular number patterns.
