Finding the Number of Cubes in Rectangular Cube Buildings

In this article, the authors describe strategies that students typically used when thinking about cube buildings. Students' mental models and enumeration strategies are highlighted, both with explanations and through figures provided in the article. Suggestions for developing understanding and proper mental models are provided, as well as instructional tasks.
