Paleontologists study preexisting forms of life through the examination of fossils derived from plants, animals, and other organisms. Oftentimes, paleontologists find only limited fossils and must use science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) to make the best judgment about extinct animals, such as estimating their size.
