Research studies on the effectiveness of homework suggest that doing homework can improve academic achievement. However, research also indicates that there is a limit to the positive relationship between homework and achievement for young students. There is evidence that homework for young children can improve scores on unit tests involving simple mathematics skills (e.g., learning place value). However, correlational studies suggest that the homework-achievement link for young children on broader measures of achievement appears to be weak.
