Stylianides, Stylianides, and Weber review research from three perspectives on the key mathematical practice of proving: proving as problem solving, proving as convincing, and proving as a socially embedded activity. Concerned that proof has played a marginal role in typical K-12 school mathematics classroom practice, they argue for the importance of designing and refining interventions to address the problems of incorporating proof in the classroom.
