Community colleges have become a key pathway for students to access post-secondary education, providing both remedial and college-level mathematics courses. Research on mathematics education at these institutions, however, has been sparse until the past decade. Mesa comprehensively synthesizes mathematics education research in the context of community colleges. She argues that mathematics education researchers have largely not addressed questions that matter to community college practitioners, and calls for the research community to attend to such questions.
