Margery, in San Antonio or even before then, go to NCTM's website and search for the Mathematics Education Trust.  There are monies available for grants and research. The next deadline is in early November.

I would add that a major reason some people go to the annual meeting is to visit the exhibits - I think the largest in the world in mathematics education - to see what new is available - in technology, in textbooks, in teaching aids, etc.

A person does not need to go to the Reflection Cove or NCTM Central events to meet speakers.  Almost every speaker is available after the session.

I would also add that there is the opportunity to interact with NCTM staff and committee members on issues related to NCTM publications and positions.

Thanks Zal for adding to the list of reasons to attend the Annual Conference! You are absolutely correct. The Annual Meeting is an opportunity to see one of the largest collections of what is new in mathematics education instructional materials. The opportunity to interact with NCTM staff and committee members adds to the sense of community and is a chance to have your voice heard.

I encourage other members to add to the list and share your favorite reasons for attending the NCTM Annual Meeting and EXPOSITION.
