Description: I believe that exploring the intersections between authority, mathematical identity, and mathematical agency with the Mathematics Teaching Framework (2018) provides us the space to examine equitable teaching practices as intentional acts where teachers pursue teaching practices that help students to view each and every student as capable of doing mathematics. I will use a brief vignette as the context for examining ways students become positioned with authority by linking it to the Mathematics Teaching Framework (NCTM, 2018) to support students in developing conceptual understanding of mathematics, identities as knowers and doers of mathematics, and building students’ sense of agency.
