Shelly Jones

Dr. Shelly M. Jones is a Professor at Central Connecticut State University. She teaches undergraduate mathematics content and methods courses for pre-service teachers and graduate level mathematics content, curriculum and STEM courses for in-service teachers.Her research focus includes characterizing teachers experience with implementing culturally relevant mathematics.

Prior to her position at CCSU, Dr. Jones was a middle school Mathematics Teacher and K-12 Mathematics Supervisor. She provides professional development opportunities throughout the United States and abroad.

Currently Dr. Jones is President-Elect of the Benjamin Banneker Association and Position Papers Editor of NCSM: Leadership in Mathematics Education. She serves on the Education Advisory Board for Teachers 2 Teachers Global and as a Board Member for the Inspire Math Foundation, Inc. Dr. Jones is also a member of NCTM, TODOS: Mathematics for ALL, AMTEC, ATOMIC and CCLM.

She is a co-author of The Brilliance of Black Children in Mathematics: Beyond the Numbers and Toward a New Discourse and author of Women Who Count: Honoring African American Women Mathematicians. Shelly’s accomplishments have earned her recognition on the Mathematically Gifted Black website as a Black History Month 2019 Honoree.
