Mathematics is fascinating but often does not resonate with
students. Catalyzing Change argues that one purpose of teaching mathematics is
to make sense of the world. Real data from real situations can engage students
in mathematical investigations that provide opportunities to see how
mathematics applies to the world in which they live.
