Timothy D. Kanold, PhD is an educator, husband, father, friend, runner, author, and presenter. A nationally recognized K-12 mathematics education leader, he began his mathematics teaching career at rural Stillman Valley, Illinois. He also served as the Director of Mathematics and Science and as school district Superintendent at the nationally recognized public high school district 125, (Stevenson in Lincolnshire) as rated by niche.com. He received his master’s degree in applied mathematics from Illinois State University, and his PhD in educational leadership from Loyola University Chicago, and subsequently served as President for the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics. He is currently a co-author of Grades K-12 mathematics textbooks for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and the Every Student Can Learn Mathematics professional development series from Solution Tree publishing. His 2017 book, HEART: Fully Forming Your Professional Teaching and Leading Life! received the 2018 gold medal Independent Publisher’s (IPPY) award in New York, for Education. Recipient of the 2010 Damen Award for outstanding contributions to the field of education, he currently leads inspirational professional development programs for educators interested in using the professional learning community process to develop a positive, research-affirmed and effective school culture for student learning in mathematics.
