About The Event

The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) are pleased to announce the creation of a Joint Conference on K-5/Elementary Literacy and Mathematics.

The NCTE-NCTM Joint Conference will provide elementary teachers and leaders with the opportunity to develop their skills in mathematics and language arts as well as engage in teaching practices and strategies that support connected learning and engagement in both domains.

If you require an interpreter, please submit your request to [email protected] before May 17, 2024. After this date, NCTE and NCTM cannot guarantee requests for interpreters can be fulfilled; however, we will make every effort to accommodate requests. 

Due to the professional nature of the conference, the NCTE-NCTM Joint Conference is not the most suitable event for child(ren). Exceptions are made for nursing mothers and their infants If you would like to bring your child(ren), please email [email protected] by May 17, 2024, and tell us their ages so that we can do our best to accommodate you. Please note that parents must accompany their children at all times and ensure their children adhere to all conference protocols for the venue. Due to safety, children under the age of 16 are not permitted in the Exhibit Hall.

If you have blindness or a visual impairment and require an aide or personal assistant to help you navigate the NCTE-NCTM Joint Conference, we will register your aide as a complimentary guest (if the aide is not a teacher). Information must be sent to [email protected] by May 17, 2024.

A certificate of attendance will be available to Conference attendees. You can use it to demonstrate your attendance at the NCTE-NCTM Joint Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana. 

Yes. The NCTE-NCTM Joint Conference offers a significant discount for groups of five or more. Each group registration must include a primary contact and separate email addresses for each attendee. Groups paying for their conference registration with a purchase order can register online and upload the purchase order form to expedite the process. 

The NCTE-NCTM Joint Conference on Elementary Literacy & Mathematics in New Orleans, Louisiana, will provide elementary teachers and leaders with the opportunity to develop their skills in mathematics and language arts as well as engage in teaching practices and strategies that support connected learning and engagement in both domains.  

You must wear your name badge to gain entry to all Conference sessions. You can modify your badge name and pronouns. To do so, use your registration ID to log in and update your badge display information to modify your name badge. Pronouns are available for selection from a drop-down list. If your pronouns are unavailable for selection, please email [email protected] so that we can add them to the drop-down menu. If you have additional questions, please contact [email protected]

NCTE and NCTM welcome members of the media, free of charge, to attend the Joint Conference for Elementary Literacy & Mathematics to meet with educators and report on key findings. Please contact [email protected] and provide your name and media outlet to get started.

Individuals traveling from outside of the United States to attend the NCTE-NCTM Joint Conference may request a Letter of Invitation to the event. The letter may be used to support an individual's request for organizational or governmental clearance to attend the event.

Individuals requesting a Letter of Invitation to the NCTE-NCTM Joint Conference must be fully registered—including payment in full—for the event for which they are requesting an invitation. Individuals do not have to be a member of either organization to request a Letter of Invitation.

A Letter of Invitation issued for the Joint Conference will:

  • Be addressed directly to the individual requesting the invitation.
  • Include the name, date, and location of the NCTE-NCTM Joint Conference.
  • Indicate the individual's responsibility for all expenses related to his/her participation in the NCTE-NCTM Joint Conference (including registration, travel, and accommodations).
  • Be signed by an authorized NCTM Representative.
  • All letters of invitation will be sent via email. If you require a printed letter, please contact [email protected]. Additional fees may apply.

Student members are automatically offered the student member discount when registering online. Student membership is designed for those enrolled in an accredited college or university as a full-time student with an interest in mathematics or language arts education. Proof of student status such as registration, class schedule, professor verification, etc., is required. For more information on how to become a member of NCTE or NCTM, visit the membership sections of their websites. 

Visit the Registration page on the NCTE-NCTM Joint Conference website, select your registration type, and check the box that indicates you are a speaker. Note: there are no special rates available for Joint Conference speakers.

Member discounts are applied at registration. If you register by phone, you need your member number to receive the discount. NCTE and NCTM are committed to creating a respectful, inclusive, and professional experience for all participants. To make clear what is expected, we ask all attendees to read and agree to the following Code of Conduct and Event Safety Policy. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate attendance for anyone who violates these guidelines. If you have a complaint or concern about harassment, discrimination, bullying, or any other conduct which may violate this Code of Conduct we encourage you to promptly notify our staff at [email protected].   

  • Cancellation requests must be received in writing on or before May 17, 2024. 

  • NCTE-NCTM will issue a full refund minus a $50 cancellation fee per person for each individual or group registration. NCTE-NCTM will charge a $25 cancellation fee per person for emeritus and student member registrations. Individuals and groups paying with a purchase order are still responsible for the cancellation fee. Contact joint conference registration for more information.

  • Refund requests, including no-shows, will not be honored after May 17, 2024.   

  • Substitute attendees are allowed but must be approved via email or letter prior to May 17, 2024. 

  • Substitute attendees must submit a letter explaining who they are substituting for (and include registration number if possible). Nonmembers substituting for members will be charged the current nonmember registration rate. In addition, no discount will be given for members substituting for nonmembers.  

  • Note that a group must contain at least 5 fully paid/non-cancelled/non-pending registrations to remain eligible for discounted pricing. If the confirmed group size drops below 5, each remaining group participant will be changed to an individual rate and the balance will be adjusted accordingly. 

  • Refunds will be issued by August 31, 2024.   



The suggested dress code for this event is business casual. Comfortable shoes are recommended. Keep in mind the hotel meeting room temperatures will fluctuate depending on size of room and attendance. Coat racks will be made available throughout the convention space. Bag and coat check will not be available at the event. 

The NCTE-NCTM Joint Conference for Elementary Literacy and Mathematics will be held in person, June 17-19, at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans in New Orleans, Louisiana. There is no online component for this event.

This is a "paper-light" event. No program book will be distributed and there will be limited onsite handouts. Materials for education sessions and programming, including a fully searchable program, is available on the NCTE-NCTM Joint Conference website.
