Accessibility and Inclusion

Accessibility-Inclusion

NCTM supports a safe and respectful environment focused on building a better community during your conference experience. We strive to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals, including individuals with disabilities, to engage fully.

NCTM includes the following in the conference planning process:

  • The Opening, Closing, and Iris Carl Equity Session will have live ASL interpretation with reserved seating in the front of the session room.
  • NCTM contracts with ASL agencies to secure Interpreters for onsite services. NCTM actively seeks to meet the needs of all accommodations during presentations.
  • Speakers will use microphones for all sessions.
  • NCTM works with onsite AV technicians to ensure speakers enable captioning for all presentations.
  • NCTM provides a quiet room for attendees during the conference. A quiet room is a space where you can experience complete tranquility. By blocking out all external noise and distractions, a quiet room allows you to relax and recharge while onsite.
  • For the visually impaired, a printed copy of the program book is available upon request.
  • All visual information presented during the keynote and sessions is verbally communicated. Speakers will verbally communicate what they present on their slides.
    • If you are attending with a colleague who will be providing sighted assistance navigating the conference spaces, please contact [email protected].
  • NCTM works with local businesses to provide scooter rental information to ensure your onsite mobility needs can be accommodated.
  • NCTM partners with a transportation service to provide ADA shuttles to and from the hotel and convention center throughout the conference.
  • Attendees have access to a lactation room.
  • There are gender-neutral restrooms located throughout the event space.
  • NCTM’s Event Code of Conduct outlines expectations for all attendees, speakers, sponsors, exhibitors, service providers, and volunteers (collectively, “participants”) at NCTM virtual and in-person events.

Accessibility at the Convention Center

Visitors with disabilities will have wheelchairs, scooters, information booths, designated parking, TDD telephones, and other services available.

Manual and Mobilized Scooters are available for a per-day fee through Scootaround Personal Transportation Solutions. To find out more about how the Scootaround locations can help you with their wheelchair or mobility scooter rental services. Call directly at 1-888-441-7575 or email for more information. Please coordinate directly with the agency.

Lactation Room
The Mamava is a freestanding lactation suite designed to provide attendees with a private space to attend to their lactation needs. The pod comes complete with two spacious benches, a fold-down table, and power outlets. Mamava pods can be unlocked with the proprietary Bluetooth-enabled SmartLock. Mamava Lactation Suites are available in the Lakeside Center Level 2 by the Gift Shop, South Level 2.5 across from Starbucks and West Level 1 near the Main Information Desk on Indiana Avenue. Please download the Mamava Mobile App to unlock the suites. Our First Aid Offices are available as well and can assist in storage.

All-Gender Restrooms
All-gender restrooms are located throughout the McCormick Place Convention Center. Please look for the specific signage upon entering.

Service Animals
Trained service animals are permitted in the McCormick Place Convention Center with proper supervision.

If you need to request accommodation for the Annual Conference, please contact NCTM Conference Services at [email protected] by August 16, 2024.

Conference Resources

Mobile App
In our effort to keep our conferences “paper-light,” the NCTM event app keeps you connected with every aspect of the meeting. This free app allows you to search sessions, speakers, and exhibits, view the Exhibit Hall floor plan, highlight your favorite presentations, rate presentations, and interact with your colleagues! More information on how to download the app is coming soon.

Program Book
The program book is fully digital. There is very limited availability for printed handouts onsite. Materials for education sessions and programming, including a daily schedule, will be available on the NCTM website for download in advance of the event. A fully searchable program is also available online and on the mobile app.

Online Planner
When available, you can use the online planner to build your conference itinerary and keep track of your personal activities. Stay updated on workshops, bursts, and cancellations for your scheduled sessions.

Session Search
Search sessions by using criteria such as keyword, session name, speaker's first or last name, date, category (including grade band and topics), session types, and locations.
