The Great Mini-Golf Project capitalizes on students’ lived experiences of playing miniature golf. Through authentic engagement and collaboration with peers, students can create their own visual representations and practical explanations of math concepts. This webinar will provide an outline of how to implement this project along with practical strategies for success in the classroom.

During this session, we will share how first graders solved the "Can you build it?" task, where they were asked to build 3D shapes based on 2D depictions. Students' initial 3-D creations often need revision, and as they build and rebuild, they develop spatial relationships. Moving constantly between 2D and 3D leads to a stronger spatial sense that helps students unveil the shapes’ structures, an important topic in mathematics and recommended as a mathematical practice. This session will be hosted in Portuguese, with captions in English.
