Chapter 20: Learning from the "Unknown" in Mathematics Teacher
Education: One Teacher Educator’s Reflections. Eileen Fernández (Montclair State University, New Jersey),
inspired by a question posed during a course entitled Numbers and Numerical
Thinking that she taught to sixteen middle school teachers, presents an article
in which she reflects on the relationship between her understandings of
mathematics and the pedagogical strategies she implemented in responding to her
teachers’ open questions. Her dual roles as a mathematics teacher and a teacher
educator were instrumental in guiding these reflections.
