Ron Lancaster, Jim Sandefur

October 2004, Volume 98, Issue 3, Page 164

Abstract:
This issue: a photograph of a sign in Boothbay Harbor, Maine; target questions focus on mathematical topics that include a graph of output from a motion detector that is a sine wave. Mathematical Lens uses photographs as a springboard for mathematical inquiry. The goal of this department is to encourage readers to see patterns and relationships that they can think about and extend in a mathematically playful way.
