Mathematical Roots: Benjamin Banneker and the Method of Single Position

John F. Mahoney

March 2004, Volume 9, Issue 7, Page 368

Abstract:
An activity about Benjamin Banneker's "Single Position" focused on teaching linear relationships. Mathematical Roots are hands-on, open-ended activities that encourage problem solving, reasoning, communication, and mathematical connections. Mathematical Roots is a regular feature of Mathematics Teaching in Middle School and highlights activities that develop conceptual understanding of mathematics topics.
