Abstract:

The "Covering the Pool" problem is introduced and solutions are provided. Students solve a computational problem involving area about how much it would cost to cover up a swimming pool. Food for Thought from Jay's Diner poses a problem for classroom use and gives a solution to a previously published problem. Food for Thought from Jay's Diner is a regular department of Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School. Student Solutions are highlighted in The Thinking of Students department of Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School.
