Abstract:
An activity about cell phone plans focused on teaching comparing rates and making good consumer decisions. Students need to look at an entire year of cell phone usage and figure out how much that family would have been charged using two different billing plans.

Mathematics Detective articles are open-ended real-world problems that encourage problem solving, reasoning, communication, and mathematical connections. Mathematics Detective is a regular feature of Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School and highlights activities that develop conceptual understanding of mathematics topics. Activity sheets are included. Teacher Notes and Solutions are also included.
