Statement: To ensure equitable mathematics learning of the highest quality for all students, NCTM should expand its efforts to support the sustained development of teachers by offering ongoing online professional learning and other Web-based resources designed and conducted by national leaders in mathematics education. NCTM also can play a greater role in the national discussion regarding mathematics teaching and learning, particularly related to the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics, in order to maintain its role as a global leader and the foremost authority in mathematics education.

To increase and broaden its membership, NCTM should develop additional member benefits and membership categories to attract new members. Such benefits might include additional Web-based resources and social media discussions targeted to teachers as well as parents, so that more people become aware of NCTM’s benefits.

I will bring to the NCTM Board my broad experiences in and passion for supporting mathematics teachers as the professionals they are, as well as a deep respect for the diverse range of perspectives and experiences that my peers bring to their work to help all learners succeed.
