    NCTM Announces New Journal for Research in Mathematics Education (JRME) Editor

    RESTON - February 29, 2024 -

    The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) has announced that Ilana Horn, PhD, will be the next editor-in-chief of the Journal for Research in Mathematics Education (JRME). Horn's editorial team will include Amy Parks and Yasemin Copur-Gencturk as associate editors and Tesha Sengupta-Irving as commentary editor.

    JRME, an official journal of NCTM, is the premier research journal in mathematics education and is devoted to the interests of teachers and researchers at all levels-preschool through college. It is a peer-reviewed scientific journal that is published five times a year.

    JRME is a forum for disciplined inquiry into the teaching and learning of mathematics. Focus areas include

    • research reports addressing important research questions and issues in mathematics education,
    • brief reports of research, and
    • research commentaries on issues pertaining to mathematics education research.

    Ilana Horn is a professor of mathematics education at Peabody College, Vanderbilt University, where she has spent the last 15 years of her academic career. She has published widely, including peer-reviewed articles in JRME, Cognition & Instruction, American Educational Research Journal, Educational Studies in Mathematics, Teachers' College Record, and other major research journals, as well as books and book chapters. She has also served as an associate editor Journal of the Learning Sciences; chair-elect, U.S. National Commission on Mathematics Instruction, National Academy of Sciences; and co-chair, Research in Mathematics in Education SIG, American Educational Research Association.

    Ilana Horn will assume the role of JRME editor-designate in May 2024 and editor-in-chief of JRME a year later.
