Improving Teacher Quality to Increase Student Engagement and Understanding

As the high school mathematics curriculum continues to change and evolve, it is essential for any mathematics teacher to remain engaged in higher level mathematics coursework and development. By pursuing advanced mathematics coursework, I hope to take advantage of an opportunity to increase my abilities as a teacher and appreciation as a student of mathematics education. It is also an opportunity to become more knowledgeable in mathematics content, in hopes of understanding it on a level that enables me to deliver it to advanced and accelerated students. Mathematics reaches out to students by developing more than just the mathematical principles, but teaches them to think in an abstract way and use critical thinking skills to solve problems. Thus, by remaining a mathematics student myself, I will continue to garner the skills and thought processes necessary to be a successful educator of mathematics.
