Incorporating NCTM's Resources and Strategies for Improved Mathematics Instruction and Student Achievement

Attendance at the 2012 NCTM Conference is an excellent opportunity for a new Mathematics Specialist. The objective is to explore the current resources and strategies at the conference that support student understanding. It is imperative that educators work to constantly improve instruction in an effort to accommodate the different learning needs of students. The valuable networking will provide additional resources and professional development contacts. As a new Mathematics Specialist in a Title I school  (72% black, 26% white, 2% other, 77% economically disadvantaged) that struggles to meet AYP benchmarks, findings from this conference have the potential to directly impact student achievement for a variety of subgroup populations. The goal is to explore technology and other resources that promote student engagement and require development of critical thinking skills. This is crucial to support the Common Core Standards and NCTM Principles and Standards, and thereby will provide excellent learning opportunities for students.
