Developing a Comprehensive, Three-Year Common Core Integrated Mathematics Program

The Mathematics Department at Etna High School, located in rural Northern California, is currently in the process of transiting to a three-year integrated pathway using the Carnegie Learning Program. The teachers need more time to develop and reflect upon the curriculum and integrate technology before the 2014-15 and 2015-16 school years. This grant will be used to fund collaboration time for the two math teachers, and to pay for substitute costs so that the teachers can attend the CMC Asilomar conference. By spending more time exploring and fine-tuning the details of each course during collaboration time the teachers can plan for deeper, more engaging student experiences. Attending sessions at Asilomar will help develop skills in teaching collaborative group work, learning through mathematical investigations and problem-based learning, and teaching with technology.
