Leadership in Mathematics
When I began teaching, my weakest area was math. However, I found myself teaching every subject as a 3rd grade classroom teacher, and decided I needed to address this weakness. I attended workshops and investigated curriculum, but the most effective step I have taken is pursuing a master's degree in elementary mathematics. I have seen growth in only a few months time from only a few courses already taken. I need assistance to be able to finish this degree, and become qualified to lead workshops for elementary math teachers. These courses will strengthen my content knowledge in each math strand, connecting foundational concepts of elementary school with what students will learn in middle, high school and college level courses. The outcome will be students who are equipped with 21st century problem solving and communication skills in math, and teachers who are equipped to use effective methods in the elementary classroom.
