Motivating and Building Confidence in Learning Mathematics

Mathematics is a subject that normally generates fear in most students, my goal in attending this conference is to gain insight and methodologies from seasoned professionals on how to apply tested strategies that gains the students confidence and eliminate the anxiety of mathematics at any given level. Attendance will also allow me to network and collaborate with other teachers from all grade levels to see how they work with and motivate their students. I would also like to learn how to make use of manipulatives and create ways to build math and have less instructional lessons. Although formal instruction is needed, I believe having a balance of direct teaching and indirect teaching will maintain students interest and they will be able to apply the mathematical reasoning to the context of the problem. Next year, will be my first year of teaching on my own and I will like to be fully prepared and take in as much useful knowledge, strategies, and tools as possible. I want my students to love coming to math class and walk into positive environment eager to learn and apply it outside of the classroom. Additionally, a goal that I have set for myself is to leave a positive impact on each of my students and have them leave the classroom environment feeling more confident and have a better understanding of mathematics.
