Math Strategies: Supporting Deeper Understanding of Mathematical Practices and Strategy Teaching

As an Instructional coach, I enjoy forming deeper relationships through Results Coaching.   My goal is to provide a path to support coherent, focused, and rigorous mathematics application and practice that reflect the logical and sequential nature of mathematics while providing teachers with quality tools.  “The Standards for Mathematical Practice describe varieties of expertise that mathematics educators at all levels should seek to develop in their students. These practices rest on important “processes and proficiencies” with longstanding importance in mathematics education.”(CCSS)  With the end goal in mind of increasing the rigor in math content, I want to empower teachers to be leaders of quality math conversations..  Through the use of Number Talks and teaching mental math strategies, teachers will empower students to become deeper thinkers in mathematical concepts.  They will be adept at facilitating conversations that are intellectually engaging as we move students toward skills utilizing reasoning, predicting, evaluating, concluding, & problem solving.  These skills are fundamental for lifelong learning and will empower students as they begin to strengthen their understanding of number relationships and structures in numeracy to enhance application in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
