Rapid change in the technologies available to support student learning of mathematics presents a challenge for researchers and practitioners. The authors focus on long-term, underlying factors that support meaningful selection and use of technology in mathematics learning. They discuss these factors with respect to four pedagogical purposes of technologies for mathematics learning: doing mathematics, practicing skills, developing concepts, and as a context for interest-driven mathematics.
