NCTM Annual Meeting & Exposition in Atlanta

NCTM has been vocal in its condemnation of racism and discrimination in all forms. Recent legislation restricting voting rights in Georgia has compelled NCTM to consider the impact of holding the NCTM Annual Meeting & Exposition in Atlanta.

NCTM supports mathematics teachers and leaders in Atlanta and Georgia who are working to develop the mathematical understanding, identity, and agency of their students for positive change. The Annual Meeting Program Committee has designed an experience to amplify voices of mathematics teachers, giving special attention to local concerns and the broader impact teachers have on their students and communities.

With this NCTM Annual Meeting & Exposition, we are initiating opportunities for action. Prior planning and discussion with the program committee have established an equity and action oriented program. In Georgia, we will take these critical conversations and move them to intentional actions.

These conversations will lead to specific activities that support access and equity through mathematics education.  What could this program look like in Georgia and beyond? The conversation is ongoing.

NCTM appreciates the Atlanta program committee's leadership in creating this experience and planning a program that connects the theme “From Critical Conversations to Intentional Actions” to important local issues and the Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics for their support to move this important work forward.
