New Grant: Opening Gates for Prospective Teachers

The new Opening Gates for Prospective Teachers Grant has been created to honor the late James D. Gates. Jim served as NCTM's executive director for 31 years until his retirement in 1995 and is remembered by many for his leadership and dedication to providing services to NCTM members. The Opening Gates grant will fund NCTM student memberships for prospective teachers of mathematics at all levels, PK-12. Leaders of teacher preparation/certification programs who are NCTM members are eligible to apply for their programs and receive up to 10 student memberships for the following school year. Find the application information and scoring rubric here. The grant will be part of the summer cycle of grants with applications due by May 1. We would like to thank NCTM Past Presidents Shirley Frye, Mary Lindquist, and Johnny Lott for their work to initiate this grant and all who have contributed thus far. Contributions to the James Gates Fund to support this grant can be made at https://www.nctm.org/Donate/.
