Blog: What’s New at NCTM?

  • Blog: What’s New at NCTM?

    August 16, 2023

The NCTM Board of Directors and staff have been working hard on some new initiatives that I want to share with you. The first three will begin sometime this fall and we have small groups, including some additional NCTM members, currently working on each of them.

    • Affinity Groups: NCTM will be starting some affinity groups formed on topics of interest this fall. These will provide additional ways for members to connect with each other and build community.
    • Speaker Diversity: NCTM is making plans to be more intentional in continually diversifying our speakers at conferences. We are creating a program to provide mentoring and some travel support for new speakers.
    • Early Career BIPOC Teacher Leadership: NCTM is making plans to be more intentional in cultivating leadership with early-career teachers. We are creating a program to provide mentoring and some travel support to annual conferences.
    • NCTM-NCTE Joint Conference: In the summer of 2024, NCTM will be co-hosting a conference with the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) focused on grades PK–5. It will have sessions focused on literacy instruction, mathematics instruction, as well as sessions integrating literacy and mathematics. We’ll share more details as they become available.
    • Conference Proposal Windows: NCTM has implemented a consistent Annual Meeting proposal window, rather than changing it each year as it had in the past. The proposal window will now open on July 1 and close October 1 every year.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions on these new initiatives.
