NCTM Research Conference Speaker Info

  • Research Conference Speaker Information

Before submitting a proposal, be sure that you can give your presentation at any time during the conference. NCTM makes exceptions for religious considerations if they are communicated in advance on the speaker proposal form.  Please review the general guidelines for speaking at an NCTM Research Conference. If you have any additional questions, email [email protected].

What do I do once I receive my acceptance letter?

    • Make sure that your proposal is accurate. Did your email or address change?
    • All changes or corrections must be made in the Speaker's Corner of the proposal system. You can access this area using the link in your acceptance letter.
    • Meet the deadline. If you do not accept the invitation to present prior to the deadline, your presentation will not be included in the Research Conference program.

Are there limitations of how many times I can appear on the program?

    • An individual may be a lead speaker on only one proposal. If not a lead speaker, an individual may be a co-speaker on up to two proposals.
    • An individual may appear in the NCTM Research Conference program a maximum of two times. This does not apply to Research Committee members, discussants, or opening/plenary speakers.

    Do speakers need to register?

    • Yes, all speakers must register for the Research Conference.

Do all of my session's speakers need to register?

Yes. Whether your session has one speaker or several, all sessions speakers must be registered by the speaker registration deadline. Speakers who are not registered by the deadline will not be listed in the program as on the session. If the session has one speaker, and that speaker does not register by the deadline, the session will be dropped from the program.

What about co-speakers? What if my co-speaker changes?

      • If you are planning to have co-speakers, are they listed accurately?
      • No co-speakers will be added to the presentation once the proposal form has been submitted.
      • If there are co-speaker changes (change in affiliation or contact information, or if the co-speaker is no longer participating), get in touch with Research Conference staff as soon as possible.
      • Changes received after the Speaker Accept/Decline deadline will not be printed in the program book.
      • Co-speakers must be notified of acceptance or rejection by the lead speaker. NCTM will not send notification to the co-speakers.

What audiovisual equipment can I use?

Please note: There will not be an Internet connection available for speakers in session rooms. Each session room will include a VGA hookup to an LCD projector and only one screen. You are responsible for providing a laptop. If you are bringing a Mac laptop, you must provide your own connector for the LCD projector. Also note that due to costly AV equipment fees, any changes to AV equipment requests made after proposal submission will result in a fee charged to the speaker.

What happens if my contact information changes after I submit?

You can access the personal information for your proposal through the link sent in your confirmation email.

What if I have to cancel?

      • Immediately contact Research Conference staff at (703) 620-9840 or email at [email protected].
      • If you do not notify us in a timely manner, your session description might still appear in the program book. Please let us know as soon as possible.
      • Do not be a no-show as this reflects negatively on the Research Conference and your reputation as a scholar in the field.
